Gabbeh

Gabbeh carpets are traditional Persian rugs with a generally thicker and rougher pile. Newer Gabbehs are considered more modern in design than other Persian carpets because of their use of shapes and colors, or lack there of. Some of the finest new Gabbehs are one solid color, with the abrash (The natural and variable change in color that occurs in an Oriental rug over time when different dyes are used) being the only "design." Gabbehs were traditionally designed as they were woven, this lead to them not having any specific design elements... some of them have small scale geometric designs, whereas some are overly colorful with large seemingly random elements.
