Sultanabad and Ferahan Carpets
Sultanabad carpets originated in the city of Sultanabad, now known as Arak. It has been a major weaving center for the past 200 years. Other types of carpets from the surrounding area include Mahal, Ferahan, Sarouk, and Mushkabad. Ferahan Rugs were originally made for the Persia’s Aristocrats from the Ferahan region. Our new Sultanabad and Ferahan inheritates the same exceptional craftsmanship and elegance that the region is known for. Hand woven in the foothills of the Himalayas, the area's nomadic tribes people dye hand sheared, hand-spun wool from their own flocks. The dyes are made from locally available plants and minerals... they are all natural. After several months of weaving, these rugs are washed in local streams and spread out in the mountain sun to dry. These rugs are truly crafted in historical tradition.
